Despite the heat and humidity, the annual FREE document shredding event in Brookside was a great success Saturday July 11th. Residents were lined up and waiting in the south parking lot (beside the tennis courts) as early as 7am, eager to take advantage of this community service event. The event was converted to a no-contact service this year, allowing cars drive through rather than participants parking and getting out. Masked volunteers took documents from trunks and back seats, offered a free Forever Brookside sticker, and had people back on the road in no time. Even the weather cooperated – rain and storms forecast for the morning passed south of the City leaving nothing but sunshine.
The annual event was created to allow highlight the many service businesses in the historic Brookside Shops, and as a way to give back to the community. Each year hundreds take advantage of the free shredding and safely dispose of tones of old checks, tax records, bills, account statements, receipts and other confidential documents. This year the two trucks were filled nearly full again.
Special thanks to volunteers from The Brookside Business Association and Brookside Community Improvement District including Jack Wheeler, KC Private Wealth Management, Patrick and Lesley Reller, Reller & Company CPA, and Hollie Flack, The Brookside Dentist who all braved the heat and made everyone feel welcomed. Thanks also to presenting sponsor Cosentino's Price Chopper as well as our supporting sponsors - The Brookside Dentist, Innovest Financial Partners, Kansas City Private Wealth Management, Reller & Company, CPA, PC & World's Window for making the event possible and free of charge to participants. And finally, many thanks to the League of Women Voters, Kansas City for providing voter registration cards and information on absentee and mail-in voting.
For over 100 years the historic Brookside Shops have taken pride in serving others. As part of that legacy, Brookside hosts the annual shred event allowing businesses and neighbors to securely dispose of paper documents, bills and other sensitive records for free. Thanks for letting us serve you!
